Only the gods could convince a father to sacrifice his own son, but that's exactly what Anteus must do with Icus, his youngest son. Appalled at such a command, Xena questions the authority and authenticity of "Supreme Deity." It turns out that Maell, Anteus' elder son, has been plotting to take over his father's throne by drugging him into murdering Icus. Through clever tricks, Maell has almost convinced Anteus to sacrifice his son, but at the last minute a booming voice stops the father's actions, giving Xena time to confront Maell. After the battle, Xena compliments Gabrielle's acting, but the young bard says that she didn't have anything to do with that voice...
